Which breast scan do I need?

Choose the option closest to your situation. This is general guidance: the final recommendation always comes from your doctor.

In younger women, breast ultrasound is usually the first imaging test when the doctor considers it necessary, for example if there is a family history. Ask your doctor whether it is right for you and how often.

Do you have a doctor’s referral? Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you which scan it is and how much it costs.

Early detection: taking care of yourself includes getting checked

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Mexico. Imaging can often find changes in the breast before they can be felt, which gives your doctor more options.

Before there are symptoms

Many breast changes cannot be felt by touch. Imaging helps to see them.

A clearer answer

Leaving with a report interpreted by a specialist gives you concrete information to discuss with your doctor.

Part of your routine

Self-exams, clinical exams and imaging complement each other. None replaces the others.

Breast scans at Clarté

Breast ultrasound

It uses sound waves, not radiation, to see the breast tissue and armpits in real time. It is painless: you will only feel the gel and the probe gliding over your skin.

It is usually recommended for younger women, dense breasts, checking a change you noticed or one found on another test, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

  • Duration: 20 to 40 min
  • No fasting or special preparation
  • Price: $1,200 MXN

Breast ultrasound with implants

Assesses the breast tissue and the condition of the implants. Tell us the type and age of your implants when you book.

Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy

If your doctor has ordered one, we perform it under ultrasound guidance. Requires a doctor’s referral and a prior assessment.

We do not perform mammography at Clarté. If you have had one elsewhere, bring it to your appointment: the radiologist will use it to compare and interpret your ultrasound.

They don’t compete: they complement each other. Doctors often order both for more complete information. No single imaging test detects every case, which is why seeing your doctor is part of your care.

Frequently asked questions about breast scans in Mérida

How much does a breast ultrasound cost in Mérida?

At Clarté, a bilateral breast ultrasound costs $1,200 MXN and includes both breasts and armpits, interpreted by a radiologist. Prices in Mérida vary by clinic; always ask whether the medical report is included.

Do you perform mammograms at Clarté?

No. At Clarté we specialize in ultrasound, including breast ultrasound. If you have had a mammogram elsewhere, bring it to your appointment: the radiologist will use it to compare and interpret your ultrasound.

What is the difference between a mammogram and a breast ultrasound?

A mammogram uses low-dose X-rays and is the recommended screening test from age 40 to 69. Ultrasound uses sound waves, emits no radiation and helps assess dense breasts, younger women or a specific finding. One does not replace the other: they often complement each other, and your doctor decides which one you need.

Which breast scan do I need?

It depends on your age, your history and whether you have noticed any change. As general guidance, younger women usually start with ultrasound, and from age 40 a mammogram is recommended. The final recommendation is your doctor’s. If you have a referral, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you which scan it is.

Does a breast ultrasound hurt?

No. You will only feel the gel and the probe gliding over your skin. Unlike a mammogram, ultrasound does not compress the breast, so it is usually comfortable even if your breasts are tender.

Do I need to prepare for a breast ultrasound?

No fasting or special preparation is needed. We recommend wearing a top with pants or a skirt rather than a dress, and bringing any previous breast studies so we can compare them.

Do I need an appointment or a doctor’s referral?

Yes, we work by appointment to respect your time; book on WhatsApp. You do not need a referral for a routine breast ultrasound. If your doctor gave you one, bring it. Biopsies do require a referral and a prior assessment.

At what age should I start breast screening?

Mexican guidelines recommend monthly self-exams from age 20, a yearly clinical exam from age 25 and a mammogram every two years between ages 40 and 69. If you have a family history or any symptoms, your doctor may recommend studies earlier.

Can I have a breast ultrasound if I have implants, am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes. Ultrasound uses no radiation, so it is usually the scan of choice during pregnancy and breastfeeding. With implants, it is also useful to assess the tissue and the condition of the implant. Let us know when you book so we can give you the right instructions.

When will I get my results, and where is Clarté?
